Riverwoods Shoot

I took my cousin out last Saturday to practice some techniques I read about. I was happy with the outcome :) Any suggestions as to what I can improve on?

Those look great... where do you read about these techniques. I should be reading more of that.

These look really good. What techniques were you practicing?

I'm not sure I would've chosen a background with a tone so similar to her skin color...it distracts from her face, which is what we're supposed to be looking at. But I also don't shoot people other than in tourist situations, so I don't really know what I'm talking about.

Your cousin is gorgeous. A stunner. So that makes its doubly hard to not only capture her beauty but record it honestly. An earlier post referred to better separation of the face and background. One good way that not too hard and keep the same background is to carry and use a small, folding reflectors. They are inexpensive. Buy two. A silver and a soft white one. They can be very small but open fan-like. Use then to direct light (hard or soft) into her face. It works like a fill flash but much more controllable and more effective. But, as I said, she is so pretty that all of your shots are near perfect.
